The Challenge
Fusion
Fusion is a monumental Italian marble public sculpture by Husam Chaya, commissioned by the Municipality of Aley, Lebanon, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), headquartered in Beirut. Carved from a single block of white Italian marble, this abstract sculpture explores the union of interwoven forms merging into a unified presence. Through fluid geometry and balanced volumes, Fusion reflects themes of dialogue, coexistence, and regional integration—values aligned with ESCWA’s mission of economic and social development across Western Asia.
Location
Originally, Fusion was intended to be installed in front of the United Nations building in Beirut. However, due to security considerations and to ensure the long-term protection of the artwork, the sculpture was ultimately placed in Aley City, where it continues to stand as a public landmark.
