The Challenge
In 2010, Chaya participated in the Abu Dhabi International Symposium for Sculpture (ADISS), commissioned by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi. Created in marble, the work explored rhythm, spatial flow, and cultural resonance through a dynamic interplay of curvature and mass. The sculpture reflects a dialogue between material tradition and contemporary form, embodying movement within stillness — a recurring theme in Chaya’s practice. Installed in Abu Dhabi as part of the symposium’s public art initiative, the piece contributes to the city’s evolving cultural landscape and its commitment to international artistic exchange.
Inauguration
The inauguration of the Abu Dhabi International Sculpture Symposium was hosted by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi and officiated by Sheikh Nahyan Mabarak Al Nahyan, then Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and President of Zayed University, marking a significant cultural moment for the capital’s emerging public art landscape.
